Our offer on a house in Ealing Broadway was accepted! Before we get too excited, we're trying to keep in mind that property purchases work pretty differently here than they do in the US. In the US, people make a contractual offer for a house and the buyer puts down "earnest money". Once the seller accept that offer (and takes the money), both are obligated to complete the purchase. If either one pulls out, there are consequences, such as the buyer losing his earnest money if he pulls out.

Over here, there isn't anything like that exactly.. we made the offer, the sellers accepted it, but until we actually exchange contracts (in a month or so), either one of us could completely drop out without any consequences. Other than if they back out, we don't have a place to live anymore :)

So, it's definitely exciting and things are looking optimistic, but we're trying to not get TOO excited until things get a bit more formal.
