Does anyone else remember Saturday morning cartoons with the break between shows? At least in Boston, there always were a group of 6 green worms or so that bent upwards (to form an L) that would say in unison "We're the snippits." Don't ask me why, I'm pretty sure there was nothing they were selling - it just WAS. Snippits.

Random things.. let's see, we went to see Fiddler on the Roof on Saturday night. One of our 2008 resolutions is to actually take advantage of London theatre and start seeing some shows. Although, not all of them need to be big, fancy productions. One of the best ones we've seen is a low (ticket) cost play called The Woman In Black - it's one of the few plays where I've literally been scared at various points. Well worth seeing, and quite refreshing to know that there's great theatre, inexpensively.

Big changes this week at home! We've managed to clean up the downstairs rooms mostly and put up some curtains. If I didn't know better, I'd think that it almost looks lived in and cosy. We're getting rid of an old rug that we moved, a coat rack, and some other misc stuff, and have now exposed the nice hardwood floors, hung up the curtains and managed to have the downstairs very presentable. Yeah for us! Also, the washing machine that doesn't work is going away on Thursday morning- to be replaced by a dishwasher! How exciting is that? And then on Friday, the plumber is coming back (for a 3rd time, don't get me started) to fix the toilet in the upstairs "guest room." We realized quite quickly that if you flush that toilet (which is luckily not the primary one), that water leaks from the upstairs bathroom, through the ceiling in the living room, and drips fairly heavly from the living room ceiling light socket. Just want you want to see. So anyway, the toilet is positioned in a very nice cosmetic way, with tile and drywall blocking access to actually do any meaningful repair. So, in theory we'll have part of the drywall cut out, an access panel created, and the toilet repaired. Whee! Oops, in this post I should use exciting phrases like "snippits" and "we're the snippits." Maybe that will be my goal.. see if this page can be a high result if someone searches for "we're the snippits".

And then random updates from my dorky side. Right before high school (so I was 15 or something), I built an alarm system for the house. It was great - I didn't know about capacitors, so in order to introduce a 15 second delay after a door opened, I played around with mixtures of various liquids, until I found a liquid that took about 15 seconds for the electricity to make it from one side of the glass jar to the other (yeah, this implies that I had bare wires taped to either end of the glass jar). Anyway, those were the early days of my fasination with alarms. These days I'm playing with slightly more advanced stuff, and have most recently started playing with a system from a UK company called AlertMe. They provide a system hub (ethernet hardwired to your regular high-speed router) and a bunch of wireless sensors ranging from key fobs to door/window sensors, to motion sensors to smoke alarm monitors. You can set up the system the way you want, and the system is like an alarm system for the house, except instead of a monitoring company, you set up rules - such as send you a text message if the alarm goes off, but send an email also to someone else, or text you for a regular sensor trip, but text everyone you know if the fire alarm triggers. From what I can tell, the company is in its very early stages, so I'm eager to see how this all plays out, and where they take it. Certainly lots of potential.. Snippits!

And I guess the last random thing is that we're determined to make the website look nicer. I'm starting to play around with images (you''ll quickly see why I'm not a designer), and Troy's starting to play with CSS and making things actually look nice. So far, I've managed to take two photos of the cats, combine them, and add texture to them. Apologies in advance..

Remember.. Long live the Snippits!
